For a small business or home office, the Xerox Phaser 3117 is able to fulfill any sort of black and white printing requirements. These different requirements are not going to be what a large office is going to use, as the 3117 is not designed for this, and many of the larger Xerox Phasers are going to work better for a larger office. However, the Xerox 3117 is perfect for someone that works at home or is working with just a few others and doesn’t need color ink in the print jobs.
The Phaser 3117 is able to print black and white documents up to 17 pages per minute. This is a good speed for the size of the printer, and although Xerox does make faster printers, for the price range, the 3117 is a nice option. The pages are produced in 600 by 600 dots per square inch, so it is important to keep the documents strictly to word and text based content. Images are not going to be reproduced very well at this dpi, especially photographs. This is basically just designed for text documents in a small office.
The memory on the Xerox Phaser 3117 is set just at 8MB, so although it is able to hold information for several different prints at once, it is important to not overload the printer with requests, otherwise this may lead to errors and other problems. The printer uses the older USB 1.1 connection, although it is still going to connect to the newer USB 2.0 or even 3.0, it is just going to send and receive information at the 1.1 speed. The paper tray of the Xerox Phaser 3117 is 150 sheets, which makes it serviceable for a smaller office not requiring large number of prints.
